Arthur Penhaligon is dying, The embarrassment, first day at a new school and he's dying of an asthma attack. as he's on the ground with his inhaler trying to breath a man appears in front of him. This is Mister Monday,Master of the lower house, The building in the center of the universe, where the architect built her first creations in the world.
He is One of 7 treacherous trustees of the house who when the architect disappeared assumed control for themselves instead of following the Will.

They broke the Will up and trapped it in prisons scattered through the secondary worlds.

But one part escaped, and now it's chosen Arthur as the rightful heir.

It tricks Mister Monday into giving Arthur the minute hand the weaker half of the item of power he uses to control the lower house. this saves Arthur's life,

But now he must travel into the house and Monday's realm to wrest the other part of him and assume control, not just because of the Will but also because it's the only way to cure the plague that's stricken his town.

Lost and confused he makes friends with Suzie Blue, a mortal who has lived in the house as long as she can remember, and he meets the Will itself, who is rather confusingly a frog.

Now his must embark on the first part of the Will quest. To gain the keys to the Kingdom he must defeat all seven, one by one. But can he even defeat this first challenge? and  will he be able to stay himself on this quest he is on?



I found this book ok. I thought it was probably aimed at young people around 10-13 years of age. and wasn't challenging. That being said I still found the story enjoyable and it's a good mix of complex and simple ideas that tries to get you to guess ahead. Worth reading but not brilliant.
