Book: Tomorrow When The War Began
Author: John Marsden
Rating: 6/10- but for reasons I will explain it's still an idea to buy it as the rest of the series so far it great
Recommended age: 12/13+ for this book of the series
This book although with a low rating is a must buy as it's setting the scene for the rest of the series which so far( as i have read books 2+3 ) is going to be Brilliant.
Set in Australia and written almost like a diary or novel/recording of there exploits, it follows a group of normal kids in the rural town of Wirrawee who decide to go camping in the bush for a week over the national holiday, it all seems like a great laugh so Ellie and her 6 friends all go into the bush in a land rover full of food and other stuff for a 5 day camp. they have alot of fun and find a way down a basin of cliffs into an area the locals call Hell. Supposedly trying to find evidence of the mad hermit of Hell.
Finding a way down the cliffs using rocks set in an almost step like formation that they Can use to drop down, at the bottom they find the perfect camp, a clearing with a creek running through. the spend a few days there enjoying the peace of Hell.
But when they get back they're in for a big surprise. Everyone is missing , animals are dead and it seems that no one has made it back form the wirrawee show. what has happened?
They soon realise that their countries been invaded and a hostile force is patrolling the town whilst keeping the locals trapped in the showground. unsure of what, how or why this is happening they flee back into Hell.
As the days go by they work out what's happened and try to decide what to do they come up with 2 paths:
Give in and surrender
or
Turn Hell into a proper camp and turn into a guerrilla force and do what they Can to fight back.
I suppose there's no need saying which they chose.
This book, although abit boring in places, ends with their first attack and is a very good buy and i would definitely recommend buying it as it sets the scene for the rest of the series, which as i have already stated is brilliant so far.
